Renee Cox
Renee Cox is an
Jamaican born artist that fought against racism. When her family moved to
Scarsdale, New York she wanted to become a film maker and she never dropped the
idea of fighting for the respect for women, for what they are worth. She is
also an activist for gender stereotypes and is one of many artists who participated
in their own art work by modeling for a few of her work. She modeled in her own
piece in 1998 called “Liberation of Aunt Jemima and Uncle Ben”. She
demonstrates confidence and power against racism. One of her biggest goals was
to get rid of gender stereotyping, that women have power to do anything, and
her art is part of the feminist movement in the United States.
