Leonora Carrington
Leonora Carrington was born on April 6, 1917 and died on May 25, 2011. She played an important role in the Surrealist movement. As a child, she was interested more in art rather than any other hobby. She was a rebellious kid causing her parents to send her away and study art in different cities and countries. This is how Carrington found her inspiration. Becoming an adolescent she attended the International Exhibition of Surrealism where she was interested in the artistic codes of surrealist. Her love life also played a huge role in her art. To continue on, Carrington was both a writer and painter. Her main focus were creatures of fantasy in majority of her early paintings. I chose this specific female artist because her paintings are different and mysterious. They are of fantasy and depict many different creatures. Leonora Carrington is an interesting artist who deserves appreciation for her fascinating works.
