        Cecily Brown, originally from London, took her talent to New York City and signed on to one of the most distinguished art galleries in the world. Her work mostly focuses on sexually explicit themes and is delivered in an abstract form. Her work can best be compared to abstract expressionism. Brown was inspired by the lack of women artists in the grotesque genre in painting. It was mostly dominated my male artists with their openly sexualized depictions of women. Brown was one of a few whose paintings encompassed the abstract genre. Some of her works, like the one down below, were intended to disturb the viewers even though her use of lavish materials, in her paintings, contradict that.
