Louise Bourgeois

Louise Bourgeois was an American/French woman born in Paris, France. Bourgeois was born December 25, 1911. I believe a growing social issue currently is mental illness and from what I've learned about Boureois I feel like her work and the meaning behind her work can best demonstrate this portion of society. Loise artwork derives from memories of her childhood and from the influence of abstract expressionism which began her ideas of pieces that would represnt psychological themes, such as pain , fear, and sexuality. Bourgeois best portrays these themes in her sculptures that she is largely known for an her paintings. Bourgeois work began to take off when she started producing more sexually explicit  artwork which got more attention due to postmodernism and feminism. Although, I personally noticed that each piece seems more like releasing feelings from a certain period in her life. Even tbough most artist gain there ideas from tlife experiences , she eems to put more focus on them which is why she became interested in psychological themes.
