Cecilia Gimenez

The female artist that I stumbled across was an 86 year old woman who goes by the name of Cecilia Gimenez.  She is not famous for an extraordinary piece of work, but the way she became known is very interesting.  Her piece is the restoration of Elias Garcia Martinez's Ecce Homo.  This restored painting went viral and people on the internet began making fun of the fresco by creating memes that spread through all social media platforms.  Two years later the village that had initially mocked the artwork gave credit to Cecilia.  The viral image gave the village a lot of traffic and publicity which was great for its economy.  Restaurants, stores, museums, etc. were all booming due to the extra 150,000 tourists.  What started off as a mockery ended in a success thanks to Cecilia Gimenez.
