Critical Artist Expression

I chose the artist Jordan Casteel. I found her work and the reason behind her inspirations very unique. Jordan paints specifically black men in there more natural environmenta. When she first began painting black men the clothing they were wearing such as name brands became the main thing the audience focused on. Jordan became interested in really capturing the essance and the soul of black men and instead of striping them of their clothes because black men are typically oversexualized she brings attention to the respect black deserve through her paintings.
