Keane, Margaret. Our Children

     I find the artwork of Margaret Keane very interesting and unique. I first discovered Keane from the 2014 film Big Eyes, which tells the story behind her life and paintings. Keane’s work is mostly known for the creation of “big-eyed waifs,” where she mainly paints women and children with hugely dramatic eyes. In the 1950’s, Keane’s then-husband began exhibiting and selling her artwork as his own until Margaret proved in court she was the actual painter behind the big-eyed figures. Her painting, “Our Children” displays kids of different backgrounds from around the world, which portray the issues of racism and poverty. You can view more of Keane’s work on her website:
