Semester Project ~Kruti Patel

I am planning to do a powerpoint presentation or an essay either one for my semester project. I wanted to pick an artist that connects with me and my background. The artist I picked is Arpita Singh. She was born in India and the thing that caught my attention while reading her biography was that she learned art in India. Most of the people go abroad for studies especially to study something like art because they think they do not have enough opportunities in India. She is married to an artist and she is so passionate about what she does that she has even influenced their child to be an artist. Most of her painting include women and what they do in their daily lives. She also focuses on the folk painting which shows that she wants to spread Indian Culture all over the world. Her main focus is to show the position of women in India. The reason I picked her is that I lived 16 years of my life in India and as a teenager, I faced many problems and rejections of the society which she is trying to show through her paintings. I feel a great connection between myself, my mother, and many other females in my family with her paintings. I plan to do a powerpoint presentation/essay to show the life of Indian women and what problems they face in the society and how Arpita Singh’s paintings spread awareness on people about problems that women face.

  1. I think it's great that you're focusing on your own culture and looking into artists that tie in with that! I would suggest going for the essay though, which you could make inspirational and also informing with your words. But it's your choice :) I feel like this is a good path that you chose for your project. Maybe make a short presentation with her pictures/ art?

  2. I think that doing you project on someone from your culture is great. I think that if you create a powerpoint and show us her paintings and then give a examples of how they connect to you would be bette rather then, doing the essay because we can't visually see the paintings.
