Semester Project Proposal

For this proposal I will create a newspaper styled article. I refuse to make it anything related to technology. The only reason is because I witness the way people think they are "supporting" a cause. I see Facebook posts or tweets on twitter. All they ask is for likes or retweets. I don't want to sugar coat anything. Sadly, the male gaze is still present. Only I feel it has gotten too dangerous. I want to spread awareness on sexual violence. Women are objects for many men. It's dangerous now because men will go as far as to raping and killing then afterwards, as if that's the only reason they are here on earth, for sex. Sexual violence seems to be more common to have women as victims. I want to have witnesses who lived through it, ask what they felt and how they overcame it. If there's one thing about women, it doesn't matter the obstacle, but we women seem to overcome it and help other women. Us women, we are a sisterhood. My article will include pictures of women who sadly didn't live to tell the experience, but I still want to include pictures of how their bodies were left by sick men. It needs to be clear how women are being left and seen. I want to include pictures and interviews. This newspaper will three stories of women who have been victims and lived to tell their story, while two will be articles that will include pictures of women who have fought until they couldn’t anymore. Many things online are sugar coated because of censorship, but this article will tell it how it is for the sole purpose of spreading awareness on how bad this situation is. How the male gaze has always been bad but has turned for the worst. I will be using the website “artagainstassault.com” for guidance. I will print it in fourths. One page, 8 x 11 will be one fourth of one entire page of the newspaper. Then I will attach them together. I will try to make the newspaper folds as accurate as possible. I don’t want to collaborate with the school paper only because they will make it more complicated for me. One of the artist I want to include would be Elone and her statement of #padsagainst sexism. This is brutally true, in the pad she writes, “Imagine if men were as disgusted with rape as they are with periods”. This is the kind of realism I agree with the kind I want to spread awareness about. There are many more and hard to pick from, but the website goes by the name “Marie Claire”. I’m excited for my project.
