5 Incredible Women Artists
Women in this society are always underestimated and when they prove to portray how powerful they indeed are, people are astonished. Art and women is a combination very common or not common at all. Women tend to fight for the entirety population of women to show people they can be the opposite of the stereotyping. The artists I have chosen for this assignment are phenomenal women who are artists today in the present day and do a great job. The artists are: Shirin Neshat, Ghada Amer, Cecily Brown, Julie Mehretu, and Marlene Dumas. These artists portray a variety of themes from identity, power, religion, gender equality, different variations of colors, shapes, sizes, and a different perspective to art. These women have worked tirelessly to perform an amazing job throughout history.
Identity, Power, Religion, Gender Equality
The wonderful artists that fall under this category of portraying identity, power, religion, and gender equality are Shirin Neshat, Ghada Amer, and Cecily Brown. That does not mean other artists do not fall beneath this category, but it just means they are the ones I focus on more towards. These artists love to focus on the identity them, the power of life, their religion and their gender being females and the equality they had to face in their life. The entire concept of identity is known as people always saying, "finding yourself". It is about all the pieces throughout a person's mind, body, their thinking which makes this "identity" feature up. It brings the outcome of a lot of hard work's thinking, peace, integrity, education and more. Identity can be about one's self esteem, their favorite sport to play or how their parents raised them simply in a great respectful manner.

Having power in general female terms is to have more power. Indeed having more power can be a resourceful thing when being a women. Power is viewed upon as a great capability because of all the mountains and bridges are climbed with the power. The word power can essentially mean that the equality is spread out evenly. Which later ties in with the mere essentials of gender equality and how they are all connected. If a women has power, she can get that gender equality. Sadly, these are concepts that women, in the twenty-first century are still struggling with, beyond coming this far to achieve success. However, the women who have made it this far have made a lot of progress and are extremely successful in the present day. There is one last thing in the theme which is religion and that is all connected with power, identity, gender equality and more. This is the foundation of a person if they believe in God. Some of the artists I chose have a God they believe in it and make it happen. Shirin Neshat is an artist who is from the country of Iran. She hoped to combine the two genres of the Iran and the west in America, and to depict how they intwine together in two different ways. Her artwork stretches from New York to Europe. This link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4YS3gGpnPe8 is Shirin herself doing an interview and explains all the attributes of her artwork.

As seen above, all of Shirin Neshat's paintings are spread out around the world and have deep significant meaning to them due to the feelings inside of Neshat. Those beautiful feelings are represented when set outside of the realm. Neshat portrayed a beautiful mixture of women, feminism, religion and more. Ghada Amer, another artist I chose to work on seems to focus on more of the same ideas and in depth into the feminism art idea.

The painting above, "Love Has No End", is actually in the Brooklyn Museum which we visited, according to a website I used. It captures such a light into such feelings which can be interpreted by a person looking at the painting. According to https://www.brooklynmuseum.org/exhibitions/ghada_amer Amer relates it back to the barbie doll love which was most popular at the time.
Cecily Brown's, The Girl Who Had Everything, 1998
Cecily Brown, another famous artist, is British and went to different art schools and had a great passion all throughout for art. She focuses on the wrongdoing of sexual things and other various ideas.

Colors, Shapes, and Sizes
Julie Mehretu is from Ethiopia but born in America who focuses her artwork on different types of art. There is lines, ink, shapes, geometric shapes, different techniques and more. I made colors, shapes and sizes a separate theme of its own because with the times changing and the past generations passing on new ideas of art, there is always a start of doing something. Mehretu uses different types of her imagination and brings them to life in her paintings.

A different perspective to Art with Magazines, Polaroids, and More
An artist I chose to focus on who fascinated me is Marlene Dumas, because of her extravagant art ways of doing art. She loves focusing her artwork on babies and just a different type of art.

Above is a short clip of Marlene Dumas and the link to it is https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E_KniEuhrE0.

These contemporary artists are just a few of the many artists out there. I divided them up into these three themes based on how I interpreted the art and the way of it.
