For my semester project, I am going to be
doing a PowerPoint presentation on “Art Works for Change” an organization that does
exhibitions featuring several women artists focusing on various themes. These
themes including domestic violence and hardships women of color face.
“Art Works for Change creates traveling
exhibitions of national and international scope, addressing issues that are
both urgent and universal. The data show that our work reaches substantial
audiences, cutting across the divisions of race, class, age, and culture more
thoroughly than do traditional museum art exhibitions.” I’ll be focusing on two
exhibitions in particular “The True Stories Project” which is an exhibition on
the reality of child sex trafficking. As well as an online Exhibition
collaboration with Ethnic Arts Foundation which is an exhibition regarding domestic
violence and the struggles these women in India and other countries in South Asia.
As a young woman who has seen the reality and consequences of domestic
violence, I believe in the efforts that this organization is doing to help
empower those women. They take pieces of art done by these same women and use
it as a tool to help empower them and other women. Art seemed to not only be a way of escape for
them, as they could express themselves as they wanted too, but as a way to find
peace and happiness.
