Project Proposal Update

Semester Project

For my semester project, I plan on writing an article on the Pop Art Movement and how it turned imagery into a culture by its popularity in advertisements and comic books. It’s also probable pop art is what introduced the sexualization and objectification of women into society’s mainstream window as early as the 1950s. I will start off my article by comparing the beginning of pop art’s representation of products and how it quickly turned to women for commercial use. There will be a focus on the differences or similarities of pop art from male and female artists. I will also compare pop art from the 1900s to present-day paintings to see if it has evolved or improved throughout the years.

While doing research on pop art, I came across the subject of “Art Pop,” which carries the inspiration of pop art from singers through their music, fashion and cinema. Since I am a journalism major with an interest in entertainment media, I thought it would be interesting to merge both art and pop culture in order to discuss its influence on famous figures over time. This article would be aimed towards fans of music and art, especially those who advocate gender equality. There is a well-known Twitter account with the username @PopCrave, which is an entertainment news page that provides updates on trending topics in pop culture. This account is in the process of launching its own website and I would like to get my article published on there if it launches in time. If not, I will create a Tumblr page for my project instead.
