Laura Callaghan(Semester Project)
This artist focuses on paintings and many of the social issues going on in our society. As a woman there are many social restrictions that they have to go through in order to be deemed a woman of social grace. She does not believe in any of these rules so when she does her paintings she represents how women should look like, and how they should act.
Since I am doing a video project I will be using Wevideo to edit everything. I will first start off by stating the social issue that women are having, as early as the 70s. I will explain the struggles that women had to go through to stay at home, foster children, and obey men. Then I will explain women in the 80s, who began to have a little voice, and were able to begin standing on their feet. Then comes the 90s, when they were finally able to vote, and society began accepting them. Then I will end with this time period, where we are told to do everything one way, and when we speak up we are shamed. I will address how in there is freedom of speech, but everything said is still criticized; especially for women.
That is when Callaghan comes in. She has seen all these sufferings women have been through, and wants to make a difference. That is why she paints. I will explain how she has been addressing these issues in her paintings, and inspiring other women artists to speak out. Not only have women been given the courage to speak up, but they are fighting for what they want. In the video I will be showing pictures and talking over them; chronologically, of course. I will also be adding music in the background.

This project is important to me because it addresses the issue that women are going through. We are always told exactly how to look and act, and this artist makes sure that this picture of women is diminished. I want ladies in my generation to realize that they can be whatever they want to be, look however they want to look, and say whatever they want to say.  We do have freedom of speech, and we should use it to our advantage.
