Full Proposal / Madeline Pitti

I hope to make a zine focusing on women artists, and also racism, empowerment, and sexual abuse. I want to tie art and issues women go through. But, I want to make it targeted towards young girls. I plan to reach my audience by making it informative but also something that maybe they will think of mentioning to someone they know. Even if they are not the targeted audience, I still want to make it engaging. I will be researching more in-depth to existing zines and also my own women artists that haven't been discussed.

This project is important to me because it is something that I care about and feel like it should be acknowledged. Even if it doesn't motivate or inspire anyone in particular, I will feel good knowing I was able to create something like this. I chose to make this because it is similar to making a book, which was my original plan. I also wanted to make it engaging, which is why I went with making a zine in the end. I have looked at zines made by women and they looked really compromising. This might intersect with my interests and professional aspirations since I want to be an English teacher. I'll be engaging with young students, and what would be better than to making something towards young girls? I also like writing and creating art, which is why I thought making a zine would best fit me.

With this zine, I hope to accomplish some form of relevance and justice to art, which is often shunned or not even noticed. I feel like women art should be noticed and seen for what it is, and I hope I will be able to do that. It might bring change if it is able to reach the right audience, and hopefully inspire them to believe in themselves and be great.
