For my original proposal I was going to do
a presentation on the Art Works for Change Organization. I instead, created an
Instagram account and put my PowerPoint on their as well as other points of
interest. I made the account public to make it accessible to everyone and asked
a few of my classmates and friends to take a look and many of them were quite
intrigued by some of the pieces.
In short, I did an “expose” on two of the
exhibitions done with “Art Works for Change.” Their mission is to “address
issues of serious concern—human rights, social justice, gender equity,
environmental stewardship and sustainability—in creative, inspiring, and
ultimately positive ways by engaging with audiences fully, creating experiences
that are at once emotional, intellectual, and sensory.”
AWFC partners with local organizations to “create
related programming that leverages the artwork to foster dialogue and build
awareness of the issues addressed. In this way, our exhibitions serve as a
crucible where artists, museums, advocacy organizations, and local community
may unite as a collective force for change.”
I found this organization to be
particularly interesting because they not only focus on one issue, but a
variety of issues from domestic violence to climate change.
I was passionate about the two exhibitions
featured in my PowerPoint as they were the most compelling to me.
