For my semester project, I choose to make a Tumblr page to compare my own art works to famous women artists we've studied throughout this semester. I choose three artists that stood out to me, I compared my pieces to Helen Frankenthaler, Frida Kahlo and Georgia O'Keeffe. I researched each of their pieces and picked ones that I thought were similar to mine, whether it was the design of the art work or the colors that made up the piece, I was able to compare many of my artworks to theirs.
I choose to do a Tumblr page because I know many people use the website, and it is easily accessible to those who want to look at my page. For this project, the main purpose is to show others that they can create beautiful pieces of art and compare it to other art works to see how similar and different art can be. There is no set guide line for art, so people can express anything they are feeling and so much more into each piece that is created. Even if people do not think they have the artistic ability to create art, nothing should stop them from creating art because art is not made just for others to look at, but as a way to show others what is happening in their lives and what inspires them. People should be able to express themselves freely and without judgement, and art is an efficient way to do that. Throughout this semester, we learned how women were seen as lower than men and only for their bodies. Many women artists at that time took what they were feeling towards men and expressed it through drawings and paintings. This not only allowed women to show men what they were feeling but also made a statement to other women that they were feeling the same way as them and that some things need to change. I highly recommend people to take some time in their lives to draw and paint pieces of art that have meaning to their lives because anything that is made is one of a kind and it is truly a good way to express yourself.
