Semester Project- Magazine for Young Girls with Art Involved

To introduce, I'm very passionate about feminism and racism and since I want to be an English teacher, what better way to combine art and social issues targeted towards girls than creating a magazine? And that's exactly what I did. I tried to make it so that it involved women artists in a creative way. I feel like there aren't enough resources out there for girls that try to uplight them. Many tell them that they need to look a certain way or act a certain way, and that's the opposite of what I wanted. I wanted to just fill it with positivity and enlightenment. I have showcased my magazine on my social media, in which many of my friends commented on it and really liked the idea behind it. I also am part of an art community online in which I often participate in, and so I have decided to upload on there as well. I can't publish all of it but I'll include the cover and some pages to highlight. I might also add it to my Tumblr, as it gets more attention through there. The link will be below. My magazine, called "Power to the Girls, Power to Art" is dedicated to young girls, who then write to the characters of the magazine created by me. These characters are diverse and include Amaya (who is in the cover), Jasmine, Shiyang, and the twins Bianca and Gianna. Each character has their own introduction and responds to girls as they wish. The whole reason behind this is so that it becomes much interesting to the reader. It also becomes more interactive. Hopefully the advice the girls give to the readers helps. Of course, the magazine includes women artists, some that were talked about in class and some from my own research. I incorporated them into the magazine as a way for people to appreciate art and not just think "Oh, it's color on paper. Who cares?" Some of these artists focus on issues that are much more important than imagined, and so I wanted to highlight that. I included pictures of their artwork in a fun way so it's not boring. I hope I did justice to the amazing art of these women.
